Since commencing the research function in January 2020, we have been developing a program to advance NHFIC’s purpose of improving housing outcomes for all Australians.
So far this year, we have:
consulted widely with a wide range of housing stakeholders, both domestically and internationally, to identify topics where we can add value to issues facing national housing markets, and complement the existing research undertaken on housing issues in Australia
formed a diverse research team drawn from the academic, public and private sectors to analyse issues across the housing sector
established an appropriate governance framework to provide oversight and review NHFIC’s research program.
We have also identified a series of research topics for release in 2020 to be addressed through a range of short and longer-term papers for public release. Consistent with NHFIC’s objective of monitoring demand and supply and strengthening efforts to increase the supply of housing, our initial focus will include:
understanding the impacts of COVID-19 on demand and supply in the housing market
an investigation of the first home buyer market based on data drawn from NHFIC’s oversight of the First Home Loan Deposit Scheme
funding models for affordable housing and community housing providers.
